How our assessments work

How a question is written, tested and normed before your child sees it — and how the report turns the answers into next steps. From CareerGuide.com.

The science, in plain words

What is a psychometric career assessment?

A psychometric career assessment is a standardised, scientific assessment that measures how a student thinks — interests, aptitude, personality and motivation — and matches that pattern to the courses, streams and careers where it fits best. Not a school exam: it reads how a child is wired, not how much they have memorised.

Ours are built on established career-assessment theories across Interest, Aptitude, Personality and Motivation, tuned by a panel of career counsellors and psychologists at CareerGuide.com, and refined continuously by the 2,500+ counsellors who use them regularly with their students.

Every report is written so the student can read it and act on it — and it ends with concrete steps for parents and counsellors, not jargon.

Nothing to pass or fail — IQ and 21st Century Life Skills scores are compared only with students of the same class in India.

Stage 1

Pilot study

Every question faces real students before it faces yours.

Stage 2

Item analysis

Questions that confuse, mislead or don't discriminate get cut.

Stage 3

Norms

IQ and 21st Century Life Skills scores are compared only with students of the same class in India.

Stage 4

Validity

The assessment measures what it claims to measure — checked, not assumed.

Stage 5

Reliability

Take it again, get a consistent picture — not a coin toss.

Reliability and validity you can feel in the decision

What a standardised assessment is built to give a family.

Better-informed decisions

Stream and course calls made on evidence, not on last term's marks or the loudest relative.

Growth opportunities named

Strengths a mark sheet never shows — named, so they can be built on.

Effort that fits how they think

When the plan matches how a student thinks, effort stops going against the grain.

The science

How a question earns its place

Our questions didn't come from a weekend brainstorm. Every question survives a pipeline before a child ever sees it.

1

Written against frameworks

RIASEC for interests, VARK and multiple intelligences for learning, standard reasoning constructs — drafted by counsellors from 15 years of CareerGuide.com practice.

2

Reviewed for child language

Every item is authored for a specific class band — a Class 3 question is built for a Class 3 reader, not shrunk from an adult assessment.

3

Piloted and item-analysed

Items that confuse, bias, or bore are deleted. Difficulty, discrimination, and fairness checks across gender, region, and board.

4

Normed per class, on students in India

In the IQ and 21st Century Life Skills Assessments, a Class 5 child is only ever compared with Class 5 students in India. Norms are re-examined as new cohorts complete the assessments.

Why never just one number?

A single score on its own collapses six reasoning zones into one label a child can never un-hear. So in the report, the IQ score always arrives with its likely range, the six zones behind it — strongest named first — and what to practise next. Specific enough to act on, never a pass or a fail. That's a scientific position, not a missing feature.

Built for their age

A Class 3 child and a Class 11 student get genuinely different assessments

Easily consumable, data-driven reports — the kind you'll actually read.

Numbers where numbers help, plain words everywhere else. Every report speaks to three readers — the student, the parent and the counsellor — and ends with what to do next.

A 30-day plan

Small, playful practice mapped to the growth area — it is not extra homework.

Certificate with a verifiable serial

A4 PDF, shareable on WhatsApp, and a serial any school can check online.
