⚙️ How it works

How does the Communication Assessment work?

How it works

In the Class 3 paper, your child answers 32 short, friendly questions across six skills — no wrong answers on the self-check parts.

🔤
English SkillsScored questions on words, grammar and understanding what they read.
🗣️
Speaking & ExpressingHow clearly your child puts thoughts into spoken words — a gentle self-check.
👂
ListeningA self-check first — then the Listening Lab reads a short story aloud and asks what they heard.
🔎
Reading Non-verbal CuesScored questions: what does a face, a pause or a tone of voice really mean?
🧍
Body Language & VoiceThe signals your child sends — eye contact, posture, expressions, tone.
🤝
Connecting with PeopleScored people-moments: polite words, kind disagreement, reading the room.

The six scores combine into one communication level out of 100 — and the report shows which skill to help with first.

🎯 Why this class

Why a Class 3 student should take the Communication Assessment

Six skills, instead of one word.

English, speaking, listening, reading faces, body language and connecting are scored apart — so “shy” becomes one named skill you can actually help with.

This is the year reading turns into a tool.

Class 3 is where children stop learning to read and start reading to learn, so the Listening Lab reads a passage aloud and checks what was understood, not just decoded.

At eight it is still play.

Whatever comes up, the plan is games, picture-talk and dinner-table stories — one small activity a week, never extra homework.

You walk away with one communication level out of 100, all six skills scored separately, your child’s strongest skill and the first one to grow, an age-right practice plan, separate notes for you and the class teacher, and a printable certificate.

🗓️ When & why

When should a Class 3 student take the Communication Assessment?

Does this sound familiar?

👨‍👩‍👧A parent

Talks non-stop at home, goes silent the moment a guest asks a question.

The report shows which of the six skills goes quiet — words, listening or confidence — and one game a week to build it.

🧑‍🏫A counsellor / teacher

Reads the passage fine, can’t tell you what it was about.

Listening Lab and comprehension are scored apart, so you know if it is attention or understanding. Group reading circles by it; give parents one clear line at PTM.

🧒Your child

Gets upset because a friend “sounded angry” — and the friend wasn’t.

Reading faces and tone of voice is a skill, not a mood. The report shows where it is at eight and how to play it up at home.

The right moments

🎒 Start of the Class 3 year

A friendly baseline before habits set — pictures, short questions, nothing to fail.

📖 When reading turns real

Class 3 is when children move from learning to read to reading to learn. See if the language base is keeping up.

🎭 Before picking activities

Storytelling, music or drama club? Pick the one that builds the skill your child needs.

Why now, not later: at eight, a quiet skill is a habit in the making. Found this year, it is a game. Found in Class 5, it is homework.

Honestly: once a year is enough. Growth is compared with your child’s own last score — never with other children.

🤔 Parents ask

Class 3 Communication assessment — what parents ask

Can my Class 3 child do the Communication assessment alone?

Mostly, with you nearby. The Class 3 paper uses short questions and three smiley answers (Not really · Sometimes · Yes, that's me!). The Listening Lab reads a story aloud, so the device needs sound on. Sit beside them for the first few questions, then let them go.

Is the Class 3 Communication assessment timed?

Softly. A friendly countdown allows about 45 seconds a question — it warns when time is up but never submits for you. Plan for about 30 minutes in one sitting; progress is not saved part-way.

How many questions are in the Class 3 Communication assessment?

32: English 8, Speaking 5, Listening 4, Reading non-verbal cues 6, Body language & voice 5, Connecting with people 4. Then the Listening Lab — a story read aloud with three questions.

Are there wrong answers? Will my child get a rank?

English, Reading non-verbal cues and Connecting with people are scored — but on understanding, not marks. Speaking, Listening and Body language & voice are self-checks with no right answer. The report never shows a rank or a comparison with other children.

What does the report show — and is there a certificate?

One communication level out of 100, all six skills with what to do next, the strongest skill and the first one to grow, lab results, a practice plan, and separate notes for parents and teachers. Print or save it as a PDF; a certificate and a share card are included.

How often should a Class 3 student retake it?

Once a year. On a retake the report adds a journey page comparing this year with their own last attempt — never with classmates or siblings.
