⚙️ How it works

How does the Communication Assessment work?

How it works

In the Class 5 paper, your child answers 40 short, friendly questions across six skills — no wrong answers on the self-check parts.

🔤
English SkillsScored questions on words, grammar and understanding what they read.
🗣️
Speaking & ExpressingHow clearly your child puts thoughts into spoken words — a gentle self-check.
👂
ListeningA self-check first — then the Listening Lab reads a short story aloud and asks what they heard.
🔎
Reading Non-verbal CuesScored questions: what does a face, a pause or a tone of voice really mean?
🧍
Body Language & VoiceThe signals your child sends — eye contact, posture, expressions, tone.
🤝
Connecting with PeopleScored people-moments: polite words, kind disagreement, reading the room.

The six scores combine into one communication level out of 100 — and the report shows which skill to help with first.

🎯 Why this class

Why a Class 5 student should take the Communication Assessment

One teacher still knows your child.

In Class 5 a profile can be handed to someone who will act on it. From Class 6 it goes to eight teachers who each see one period a day.

Stage nerves and weak words look identical from outside.

Speaking & Expressing, Body Language & Voice and Reading Non-verbal Cues are scored separately, so you know whether it is confidence, delivery or language.

Middle school is one year away.

A skill named now gets a full calm year of practice before subjects, teachers and group work all change at once.

You walk away with one communication level out of 100, all six skills scored separately, your child’s strongest skill and the first one to grow, a practice plan for home, separate notes for you and the class teacher, and a printable certificate.

🗓️ When & why

When should a Class 5 student take the Communication Assessment?

Does this sound familiar?

👨‍👩‍👧A parent

Won’t go on stage for the recitation — then recites it perfectly in the car.

The words are there; the report tells you whether it is confidence, voice or body language that stays home, and what to practise before middle school.

🧑‍🏫A counsellor / teacher

Thirty-five Class 5s heading to middle school. You know who talks — not who can.

A six-skill profile for each child. Pick elocution and drama teams on skill, not volume, and hand the Class 6 teacher a real note.

🧒Your child

Says “fine” to everything — but the face says otherwise.

Body Language & Voice measures the signals they send. The report shows whether your child knows what their face is saying — and how to match words to it.

The right moments

🏫 The last primary year

Middle school brings new teachers, new subjects and much more speaking. Know where your child stands before the jump.

🎤 Before first competitions

Elocution and recitation usually start around Class 5 — see if confidence or clarity needs a hand first.

🗣️ After a PTM comment

“Bright but quiet” deserves a proper answer, not a guess.

Why now, not later: Class 5 is the last year with one teacher who knows your child. In Class 6 there are eight, and none of them will have time to notice.

Honestly: once a year is enough. Growth is compared with your child’s own last score — never with other children.

🤔 Parents ask

Class 5 Communication assessment — what parents ask

Can my Class 5 child do the Communication assessment alone?

Mostly, with you nearby. The Class 5 paper uses short questions and three smiley answers (Not really · Sometimes · Yes, that's me!). The Listening Lab reads a story aloud, so the device needs sound on. Sit beside them for the first few questions, then let them go.

Is the Class 5 Communication assessment timed?

Softly. A friendly countdown allows about 45 seconds a question — it warns when time is up but never submits for you. Plan for about 30 minutes in one sitting; progress is not saved part-way.

How many questions are in the Class 5 Communication assessment?

40: English 10, Speaking 6, Listening 5, Reading non-verbal cues 8, Body language & voice 6, Connecting with people 5. Then the Listening Lab — a story read aloud with three questions.

Are there wrong answers? Will my child get a rank?

English, Reading non-verbal cues and Connecting with people are scored — but on understanding, not marks. Speaking, Listening and Body language & voice are self-checks with no right answer. The report never shows a rank or a comparison with other children.

What does the report show — and is there a certificate?

One communication level out of 100, all six skills with what to do next, the strongest skill and the first one to grow, lab results, a practice plan, and separate notes for parents and teachers. Print or save it as a PDF; a certificate and a share card are included.

How often should a Class 5 student retake it?

Once a year. On a retake the report adds a journey page comparing this year with their own last attempt — never with classmates or siblings.
